Coimbatore Collector's Push for 100% Voter Turnout in Assembly Election
Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar made a fervent appeal on Wednesday, urging first-time voters to exercise their democratic right in the upcoming assembly election scheduled for April 23. The collector emphasized that voting is a fundamental duty, particularly for students who are participating in the electoral process for the first time.
SVEEP Awareness Programme at Nirmala College
The appeal was made during a Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) awareness programme held at Nirmala College of Arts and Science in Sungam, Coimbatore. Giriyappanavar addressed the students, stating, "The purpose of conducting such awareness events is to ensure 100% voting. It is everyone's democratic duty to vote in the elections to be held on April 23, especially students who are voting for the first time. Individual voters should have the responsibility towards choosing their leader."
Signature Campaign and Model Polling Centre
To bolster voter participation, the collector launched a signature campaign aimed at guaranteeing 100% voting. Additionally, a model polling centre was established on the college premises to educate first-time voters about the polling setup and procedures to be followed on election day. Giriyappanavar inspected the centre, where a mock voting session was arranged, allowing him to interact directly with the students and clarify any doubts.
Engaging Activities to Promote Electoral Awareness
The awareness programme featured a variety of engaging activities designed to inspire voter enthusiasm:
- A voter pledge ceremony to instill a sense of civic responsibility.
- A rangoli art display with vibrant designs promoting electoral participation.
- Painting and rangoli competitions with tag lines such as "My vote My right," "My vote my strength," and "100% vote."
- Screening of a short film titled "Voting Hero" to highlight the importance of voting.
School and college students actively participated in these activities, showcasing their creativity while reinforcing the message of electoral duty. The collector's initiative underscores a broader effort to enhance voter education and ensure a robust democratic process in the region.
