In a significant political development, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai has launched a sharp critique against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that deep-seated internal conflicts within the BJP are severely impacting governance and development initiatives across the state.
Absence From Party Event Highlights Growing Dissent
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, Rai pointed to what he described as "widening cracks" within the governing party, specifically highlighting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's conspicuous absence from the BJP's foundation day celebrations. "Despite being physically present in the state, the chief minister neither attended the programme in person nor participated virtually," Rai emphasized, noting that other senior leaders had actively participated in the event.
The Congress leader interpreted this absence as a clear indicator of mounting dissatisfaction within BJP ranks regarding Adityanath's leadership. "This development clearly demonstrates that discontent regarding the chief minister has reached its peak within the BJP and is now manifesting in public events for everyone to see," Rai asserted during his media interaction.
Unmet Election Promises and Governance Failures
Rai further intensified his criticism by alleging that the state government has consistently failed to deliver on key promises made during the crucial 2022 assembly elections. The Congress president specifically identified several critical areas where he claims the administration has fallen short:
- Employment generation initiatives have not materialized as promised
- The commitment to double farmers' income remains largely unfulfilled
- Substantial improvements in law and order have not been achieved

The Congress leader presented multiple specific examples to substantiate his allegations of governance failures:
- Law Enforcement Issues: Rai cited recent incidents of alleged police action against youths in both Prayagraj and Lucknow, questioning the administration's approach to maintaining public order.
- Recruitment Uncertainty: He highlighted ongoing uncertainty faced by candidates associated with the 69,000 teacher recruitment process, suggesting systemic failures in employment initiatives.
- Contractual Worker Concerns: Issues related to contractual workers associated with the Chief Minister's helpline were flagged as evidence of administrative shortcomings.
- "Bulldozer-Driven Governance": Rai criticized what he termed as "bulldozer-driven governance," alleging that this approach has created an atmosphere of fear among ordinary citizens across Uttar Pradesh.
- Stray Cattle Management: The Congress president raised concerns about the condition of stray cattle, referencing a purported incident from Varanasi to question the government's cow protection claims. "The administration's assertions regarding cow protection do not align with the ground reality experienced by communities," he claimed.
Decade of Disillusionment and Future Political Strategy
Rai maintained that despite being in power for nearly a decade, the BJP has fundamentally failed to meet public expectations across Uttar Pradesh. "The people of this state now feel genuinely disillusioned with the current administration's performance and governance approach," he stated emphatically.
Looking toward future political engagement, the Congress leader announced that his party would organize a significant advocates' conference on the birth anniversary of renowned social reformer Jyotirao Phule. This event is expected to feature participation from several prominent national leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi and former Union minister Salman Khurshid, signaling the Congress party's renewed focus on building strategic alliances and addressing governance concerns through structured political discourse.
