Congress alleges voter list manipulation in Adampur polls

Congress MLAs and other leaders from Jalandhar district have leveled serious allegations regarding the Adampur nagar council election. They claim that names were added to voter lists even after the election process had commenced.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday evening, MLAs Pargat Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Kotli, and Hardev Singh Ladi Sherowalia accused the authorities of flouting election rules in Adampur. Providing a copy of the complaint already submitted to the returning officer, Kotli stated that the name of a candidate from the ruling party was added to the list after the election notification was issued on May 11.

Kotli further alleged that they had detected the addition of approximately 300 voters across four wards after the stipulated deadline. In one instance, names of hospital employees were added using only the front side of Aadhaar cards, while the reverse side containing their addresses was concealed. He claimed that officials were being pressured to include these names. The Congress MLA said he had been informing senior officials about these irregularities, but their concerns were not being addressed. He added that they were prepared to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Pargat Singh drew parallels with the municipal corporation election in Jalandhar, where voters were allegedly added similarly. He accused the Aam Aadmi Party of replicating the same model in Punjab, while leveling allegations against the BJP in other states. Former MLA Rajinder Beri and former Adampur NC president Darshan Singh Karwal were also present during the press conference.
