Congress MP Slams KTR for 'Baseless' Allegations Against Telangana Government
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy launched a sharp rebuttal on Sunday, accusing BRS working president KT Rama Rao of orchestrating a vicious campaign against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress administration. The MP attributed KTR's actions to mounting frustration following a series of electoral defeats for the BRS party.
Disputing Land Restriction Claims
Reddy specifically addressed KTR's assertion that the Congress government has dramatically expanded the prohibited land list from 16 lakh acres under the previous BRS regime to nearly one crore acres currently. The Congress parliamentarian presented a detailed counter-argument, stating that Telangana's total land area is approximately 2.75 crore acres.
"The Congress government has deposited 9,000 crore rupees under the Rythu Bharosa scheme directly into the bank accounts of farmers who own 1.50 crore acres of land," Reddy emphasized. "This financial benefit is exclusively provided to farmers who possess proper passbook documentation."
He further clarified that the forest department controls 68 lakh acres of land, suggesting KTR's figures were misleading. "KTR should immediately cease spreading these unfounded allegations that misrepresent the government's agricultural policies," the MP asserted.
Allegations of Financial Mismanagement
The Congress representative escalated his criticism by alleging severe financial deterioration under BRS leadership. According to Reddy, Telangana maintained a revenue-surplus status in 2014 when the state was formed, but the subsequent BRS government's policies allegedly accumulated a staggering debt exceeding 8 lakh crore rupees.
Reddy characterized BRS governance as "farmhouse administration" and accused the previous regime of failing to establish productive relations with the central government, resulting in significant losses for Telangana's development.
Questioning Infrastructure Legacy
The MP challenged the BRS government's developmental record, claiming the Kaleshwaram irrigation project stands as their sole major accomplishment. However, he immediately qualified this by alleging construction flaws in the project due to purported corruption during its implementation phase.
This political confrontation highlights the intensifying rivalry between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS in Telangana, with both parties leveraging economic data and policy implementation records to bolster their respective positions ahead of future electoral contests.
