Chandigarh: Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the Congress MP from Gurdaspur and former deputy chief minister of Punjab, launched a scathing attack on chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Vidhan Sabha speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Sunday. He accused them of failing to deliver justice in the Maur Mandi blast case, even after four and a half years had passed since the incident.
Randhawa's Accusations
Randhawa stated that both Mann and Sandhwan had promised justice to the victims of the Maur blast and had claimed they would ensure the arrest of the accused. However, he asserted that no substantial progress has been made.
In a written statement, Randhawa said, "The main accused in the case — Gurtej Singh, Avtar Singh and Amrik Singh — are still far from police custody. The government has also failed to determine where the explosive material used in the blast was procured from."
Devastating Incident
"Punjab did not witness such a devastating blast in the last 25 years, where so many people lost their lives simultaneously. Despite the seriousness of the case, no thorough investigation has been carried out so far, and government agencies have completely failed to uncover the truth," said the Congress leader.
He further demanded, "The government must clearly explain what action has been taken so far in such a sensitive matter and why the accused are still absconding."
Background of the Case
The Maur Mandi blast occurred over four years ago, resulting in multiple casualties. The case has remained unresolved, with key accused evading arrest. Randhawa's remarks highlight the growing political tension in Punjab over the handling of the investigation.
