Congress Party Announces Candidates for Gujarat Municipal Elections
The Gujarat state unit of the Congress party made a significant political move on Sunday by revealing the names of 243 candidates for the upcoming municipal corporation elections. This announcement covers key urban centers across the state, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Morbi.
First List Focuses on Ahmedabad Wards
In the initial list disclosed on Sunday, the Congress has fielded candidates for 33 wards of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). This strategic selection marks the party's effort to strengthen its presence in Gujarat's largest city and other major municipalities ahead of the polls.
Election Schedule and Broader Context
The elections are scheduled to be held on April 26, with voting taking place from 7 am to 6 pm. This electoral process is part of a larger exercise that includes 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats across Gujarat. The counting of votes will commence on April 28, determining the outcomes for these local governance bodies.
The announcement underscores the Congress party's preparation and commitment to contesting the civic polls vigorously, aiming to challenge the ruling party in urban areas. With this candidate list, the party seeks to address local issues and connect with voters in these municipalities, setting the stage for a competitive election season in Gujarat.
