Congress Minister Predicts Overwhelming Victory in Telangana Urban Polls
Hyderabad: In a bold declaration of political confidence, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated on Wednesday that the Congress party's winning momentum, which began with the 2023 assembly elections, is set to continue unabated. He expressed strong assurance that the party would secure more than 90 percent of the 123 urban local bodies where polling was conducted.
Counting Scheduled for Friday, Results Expected Same Day
Vote counting for these crucial municipal elections is scheduled for Friday, February 13, with official results anticipated to be announced on the same day. This timeline adds urgency to the political landscape as parties await the verdict of urban voters across Telangana.
Massive Victory to Cement Congress Position in Urban Areas
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote in the Kodad municipality, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy elaborated on the significance of this electoral contest. He emphasized that a substantial triumph in the municipal elections would serve to solidify the Congress party's standing in urban regions throughout the state. Furthermore, he positioned this potential victory as a critical stepping stone toward success in the next assembly elections.
The minister projected that Congress would maintain governance in Telangana for a minimum of eight additional years, pointing to the robust support base the party has cultivated. He stated with conviction that the party is assured of an overwhelming performance in the forthcoming assembly elections, attributing this confidence to effective administration and popular policies.
No Close Rivals to Congress, Says Minister
Reddy referenced the party's consistent electoral performance, tracing a trajectory from the December 2023 assembly elections through to the recent gram panchayat polls. Based on this pattern, he asserted that no political entity could currently be viewed as a formidable competitor to the Congress in Telangana.
He criticized opposition parties, alleging that their deliberate campaigns lack credibility and have failed to gain public trust. Citing statewide polling trends, the minister reiterated his prediction of Congress winning over 90 percent of the urban local bodies, including a near-clean sweep across all 123 bodies, which encompass seven municipal corporations.
Attributing Success to Governance and Welfare Initiatives
The minister attributed what he described as a positive political atmosphere to the Congress government's performance over its two-year tenure. He highlighted effective governance, comprehensive welfare initiatives, sustained development efforts, and a transparent administrative approach as key factors driving public support.
Reddy claimed that opposition attempts to disseminate false allegations against the Congress government have been unsuccessful, with the public refusing to believe such claims. He urged opposing parties to cease misinformation campaigns and instead focus on constructive political engagement.
Welfare Schemes Creating Positive Impact
Uttam Kumar Reddy pointed to specific welfare programs that have resonated with citizens, including the supply of fine rice, provision of free electricity, and complimentary bus rides for women. He stated that these initiatives have generated a favorable perception among the populace.
Addressing urban voters' needs, the minister acknowledged the demand for basic amenities and infrastructure upgrades in municipal areas. He assured that under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, there would be substantial allocations for welfare projects, notably the Indiramma housing scheme.
The government's primary focus, he concluded, will remain firmly on development and welfare, aiming to shape Telangana into one of the nation's top-performing states through continued dedication to public service and progressive policies.
