Congress Stages Massive Protest in Barmer Against District Boundary Changes

The Congress party organized a significant demonstration in Rajasthan's Barmer district on Wednesday. Party leaders called it a Jan Aakrosh Rally to voice strong opposition against proposed alterations to district boundaries.

Allegations of a Well-Planned Conspiracy

Senior Congress leader Hemaram Choudhary has been leading a dharna in Dhorimanna for eleven consecutive days. He firmly asserts that the boundary modifications represent a well-planned conspiracy. Several prominent party figures have rallied behind him in support.

The protest directly responds to a state government notification issued on December 31, 2025. This notification mandates the removal of Dhorimanna and Gudamalani sub-divisions from Barmer district. These areas will merge into Balotra district. Simultaneously, the Baytu sub-division returns to Barmer district.

Key Leaders Join the Protest

A delegation of top Congress leaders visited the protest site in Dhorimanna. The location sits strategically in front of a power plant along the national highway connecting Barmer and Sanchore. The delegation included:

  • State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra
  • Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully
  • Former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot
  • MP Ummedaram Beniwal
  • Senior leader Harish Chaudhary

Strong Words from Congress Leaders

Addressing a large gathering, Govind Singh Dotasra accused the ruling BJP of acting in an authoritarian manner. He criticized the processes of delimitation and Special Intensive Revision (SIR). There is no need to bow before such rulers, he declared. Dotasra emphasized that this struggle extends beyond Gudamalani or Dhorimanna and concerns the entire state.

Tikaram Jully warned the public about what he described as a political trick. He predicted that those orchestrating it would lose their positions. Jully alleged the BJP government favored industrialist friends by allocating land in Barmer and Jaisalmer. He assured that the people of Rajasthan would respond decisively in the coming days.

Sachin Pilot highlighted that the previous Congress government advocated for inclusive population norms during delimitation. He pledged to raise the issue forcefully in the Assembly. Pilot confidently stated the Congress would return to power in Rajasthan within the next thirty-five months.

Harish Chaudhary claimed the public was being misled through backdated orders. He noted that even officials seemed uncertain when questioned about the boundary changes.

Rally Concludes with Memorandum Submission

Following the speeches, all leaders traveled together in a single vehicle to the SDM office. A substantial crowd had assembled there as part of the rally. The leaders formally submitted a memorandum outlining their demands to the SDM.

The Congress demands the immediate withdrawal of the proposed boundary changes for Barmer and Balotra districts. They have issued a clear warning about intensifying protests if their demands remain unmet.

Significant Public Participation

The protest witnessed robust participation from over ten thousand Congress workers and local residents. Opposition to the boundary redrawing continues to gain momentum across the region. The event underscores growing political tensions in Rajasthan over administrative reorganization.
