Congress Stages Sit-In Protest in Khargone Over Alleged Corruption in Tantya Bhil Statue Installation
The District Congress Committee in Khargone organized a sit-in protest on Saturday. They gathered in front of the statue of tribal freedom fighter Tantya Bhil. The protest targeted alleged corruption in the statue's installation by the Khargone municipality.
Protesters Demand Public Apology and Action
District Congress president Ravi Naik addressed the gathering. He stated the alleged corruption insults Tantya Mama and the entire tribal community. Naik demanded a public apology from the BJP-led municipal council. He also questioned whether the BJP would have installed a new statue without Congress exposing the alleged scam.
Naik accused the BJP of having an anti-tribal mindset. He emphasized the need for accountability in this matter.
Congress Leaders Call for Suspension and Inquiry
Bhikangaon MLA and state Congress committee vice-president Jhuma Solanki made serious allegations. She claimed senior officials received protection while lower-level employees became scapegoats. Solanki demanded immediate suspension of the Khargone chief municipal officer.
She also called for registering an FIR against the officer. A high-level inquiry into the municipality president's role was another key demand.
BJP Tribal Representatives Face Criticism
Bhagwanpura Congress MLA Kedar Dabar questioned the silence of BJP's tribal public representatives. This includes MPs, district leaders, and local councillors. Dabar labeled their silence as consent in the alleged corruption.
The party criticized the municipal authorities' inquiry as an eyewash. They believe it fails to address the core issues of the scandal.
The protest highlights ongoing tensions over tribal representation and governance in Khargone. Congress leaders vow to continue their fight for justice and transparency.
