Himachal Pradesh Congress workers staged a protest in Dharamsala on Tuesday against the recent increase in fuel prices. Protest Details
The protest was led by local Congress leaders, including former minister Sudhir Sharma and Dharamsala block president Rajesh Sharma. Addressing the gathering, Sudhir Sharma criticized the BJP-led government for its failure to control rising prices. He said, "The fuel price hike is a direct attack on the common man. It will lead to inflation in essential commodities and increase the cost of transportation."
Demands for Rollback
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, demanding that the government immediately reverse the price increase. They argued that the hike violates previous assurances and exacerbates the financial strain on households. The Congress workers also called for a reduction in taxes on petroleum products to provide relief.
The protest remained peaceful, with police maintaining a tight vigil. No untoward incidents were reported. The Congress party has announced further agitations if their demands are not met.
This protest is part of a series of demonstrations by the opposition across the state, highlighting the impact of fuel prices on the common man. The state government has not yet responded to the demands.
