Congress Accuses Administration of Severe Lapses in Lucknow Slum Fire Emergency Response
The Congress party on Thursday leveled serious allegations regarding critical failures in emergency response and relief operations following a devastating fire in a slum cluster located in Lucknow's Khurramnagar area. The party claimed that firefighting services arrived at the scene nearly three hours after the blaze initially broke out, highlighting significant delays in the official response mechanism.
Delegation Assesses Situation and Meets Affected Families
A high-level Congress delegation, spearheaded by prominent leader Aradhana Mishra Mona, conducted a thorough visit to the affected slum area one day after the tragic incident. The purpose of the visit was to personally assess the ground situation and engage directly with the victims who suffered losses in the fire.
During her interactions with distressed residents, Mishra met with multiple families impacted by the disaster, including one family that reportedly lost children in the fierce blaze. She listened attentively to their accounts and grievances regarding the handling of the emergency.
Residents Report Lack of Immediate Government Assistance
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Aradhana Mishra Mona revealed disturbing details shared by the local residents. "The affected people informed us that no immediate government assistance had reached them even a full day after the fire occurred," she stated emphatically.
She further described the grim scene at the site, noting that carcasses of animals killed in the fire were still lying unattended, creating unsanitary conditions and adding to the trauma of the survivors. Many residents expressed frustration that the fire brigade arrived exceptionally late despite the slum locality being situated in close proximity to a major highway, which should have facilitated quicker access.
Congress Highlights Administrative Failures and Announces Relief Measures
Mishra raised substantial concerns over the apparent absence of timely administrative support and proper relief arrangements for those whose homes and belongings were destroyed. Emphasizing the urgent need for assistance, she announced a personal contribution of Rs 1 lakh from her side to provide immediate support to the victims struggling in the aftermath.
Additionally, she confirmed that the Congress party would organize and dispatch essential relief materials to the affected families to help them cope with their losses and begin the recovery process. The party's intervention aims to bridge the gap left by what they describe as inadequate governmental response.
The incident has sparked a broader discussion about emergency preparedness and the efficiency of disaster response systems in urban slum areas, with the Congress demanding accountability and improved protocols to prevent such lapses in the future.
