On the occasion of the 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Rao Narender Singh delivered a clarion call to the party's rank and file. He urged them to intensify their struggle against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by systematically exposing what he termed as the wrongs committed during its tenure over the last eleven years.
A Call to Arms on Congress Foundation Day
The address was made at the Congress headquarters in Chandigarh on Sunday, during a programme organised by the Sewa Dal and other frontal units of the party. Rao Narender Singh unfurled the party flag as part of the Foundation Day ceremonies. He reminded the gathered workers that since its inception, the Congress's core mission has been to safeguard the rights of the poor, farmers, workers, youth, and marginalised sections of society.
Launching a sharp and direct attack on the BJP government, both at the Centre and in the state, the HPCC chief accused it of undermining democratic foundations. He asserted that democracy, the Constitution, and constitutional institutions are facing systematic assaults, a situation the Congress party would not tolerate under any circumstances.
Allegations of Policy Failures and Injustice
Narender Singh linked several pressing issues directly to the BJP's governance. He alleged that due to the BJP's anti-people policies, critical problems like unemployment, inflation, and social inequality have soared to alarming levels. He specifically highlighted the plight of Haryana's youth, who he said are being forced to wander in search of employment opportunities.
Further criticising the government's approach, he claimed that the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), a scheme initiated by the previous Congress-led government, has been nearly dismantled. He framed this as a direct attack on the survival of workers, the marginalised, and landless farmers.
The Congress leader also cited a litany of alleged injustices to bolster his argument. He pointed to:
- Recruitment scams
- Land scams
- Illegal mining activities
- The transfer of tribal land to land mafias
- Various other unlawful acts
Singh confidently stated that the people of Haryana would hold the BJP accountable for these alleged failures and corrupt practices.
Congress's Resolve and Future Strategy
Outlining the party's path forward, Rao Narender Singh declared that the Congress would continue to be the voice of the people. The strategy involves exposing the failures of the BJP government relentlessly, from public protests on the streets to raising issues within the legislative assembly.
On this significant Foundation Day, other party leaders and workers joined in reiterating their collective resolve. They pledged to intensify the political struggle with a focus on protecting the Constitution, upholding democratic values, and ensuring social justice for all citizens of Haryana.
The event marks a clear hardening of the Congress's stance in the state, setting the stage for a more confrontational political battle in the lead-up to future elections.
