Bhopal: In a show of unity ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress party convened a meeting of its MLAs and senior leaders at the party headquarters in Bhopal on Saturday. The gathering was held to support party candidate Meenakshi Natarajan, who is expected to file her nomination papers on Monday.

Meeting Focuses on Strategy and Cohesion

The meeting was attended by AICC in-charge Harish Chaudhary, MP Congress chief Jitu Patwari, leader of opposition Umang Singhar, along with other senior leaders and party MLAs. Discussions centered on poll strategy and ensuring unity within the legislative party. Senior Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh participated virtually.

Leadership Dismisses Dissent Rumors

Addressing the media after the meeting, Umang Singhar dismissed speculation of any internal dissent, asserting that all Congress MLAs are united behind Natarajan's candidature. He further claimed that even if the BJP fields a third candidate, the Congress would comfortably win the election with the support of its legislators.

Patwari Highlights Candidate's Ideology

Jitu Patwari described Meenakshi Natarajan as a strong representative of Gandhian ideology, stating that the party fielded her to strengthen issues related to women's empowerment, clean politics, and constitutional values. He emphasized that the Rajya Sabha election is not just about one seat, but a fight for democratic values and constitutional institutions.

Natarajan Expresses Gratitude

Meenakshi Natarajan thanked Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and the state leadership for reposing faith in her. Recalling her political journey from NSUI to Parliament, she pledged to work with full commitment and dedication to uphold the party's ideology and protect constitutional values.

The Congress leadership used the occasion to send a clear message that the party remains united in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Rajya Sabha contest.
