CPI MLA K Sambasiva Rao Denounces Governor System, Accuses Centre of Step-Motherly Treatment
Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA K Sambasiva Rao has launched a scathing critique of the governor system, asserting that his party stands firmly opposed to it. Speaking in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Rao alleged that governors in recent times have been instrumental in fomenting disputes between states, undermining cooperative federalism.
Budget Address Falls Short of Expectations
Commenting on the governor's recent budget address in the assembly, Rao expressed deep disappointment, stating that the speech failed to meet the people's expectations. He highlighted that it contained no new schemes aimed at benefiting the poor and middle class, leaving crucial segments of society without adequate support.
Rao accused the Centre of showing stepmotherly treatment towards Telangana, alleging a pattern of neglect towards southern states in general. He urged the governor to proactively raise this issue with the Central government and ensure that adequate funds are allocated to Telangana to address its pressing needs.
Unprecedented Financial Difficulties and Worker Promises
The CPI MLA emphasized that Telangana is grappling with unprecedented financial difficulties and called on the governor to take the initiative in helping to resolve these challenges. He also advised the state government to implement promises made to workers of Singareni Collieries Company Limited and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation.
Neglecting these commitments could lead to significant political repercussions, Rao warned, underscoring the potential fallout from failing to address labor concerns.
Stalled Projects Pose Serious Challenges
Rao further pointed to critical projects such as the Future City and the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy, cautioning that if these do not progress properly, the government could face serious challenges. He suggested that special plans be meticulously prepared to ensure their effective implementation, stressing the importance of developmental initiatives for the state's growth.
Defending Communist Role Amid Criticism
Referring to criticism over the Velugumatla issue, Rao acknowledged that some individuals are targeting communists. However, he added that the country consistently recognises the importance of communists whenever problems affecting the poor arise, reaffirming their role in advocating for marginalized communities.
This statement comes amid broader geopolitical tensions, including updates on the Israel-Iran conflict, where developments such as US strikes on Iranian missile sites near the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's use of cluster bombs on Tel Aviv have escalated fears, including concerns over oil security in the Hormuz region. Additionally, Iran confirmed the death of national security chief Ali Larijani, with President Pezeshkian offering condolences, while Israel admitted to a strike on an Iranian chief, further intensifying the conflict.
