Kozhikode: In a candid admission of shortcomings that contributed to the party's setback in the state assembly elections, senior CPM functionary and former industry minister P Rajeeve said the poll slogan 'Who else but LDF?' was not appropriate enough.
Rajeeve said at the 'World of EMS' seminar held at Areekode in Malappuram on Monday that the post-election review has found that the slogan created an unintended perception among the public.
Referring to the Sabarimala gold heist issue, he said the party should have taken timely disciplinary action against the party functionaries allegedly involved in the controversy, rather than citing organisational technicalities.
Rajeeve also noted that the party's review report had highlighted the low representation of women. He said the numbers improved only after intervention from the party's central brass.
Emphasizing the need to recalibrate political strategies and agitations to changing times, Rajeeve said: “We cannot address today's challenges by merely repeating the methods of the past. We must learn from yesterday, develop approaches suited to the present and transform ourselves into a party that reflects contemporary realities. Only then can we overcome this phase of crisis.”
