CPM Leader Claims Early Detection of Sudhakaran's 'Disease' Amid Political Tensions
In a significant development within Kerala's political landscape, CPM Alappuzha district secretary R Nazar has publicly stated that the party identified what he termed as the "disease" affecting senior leader G Sudhakaran at an early stage. Nazar made these remarks during a press conference held in Alappuzha, where he was accompanied by other district committee members.
Understanding Through Interactions
Nazar explained to reporters that the party's understanding of Sudhakaran's problematic stance emerged from various interactions over time. "We had understood this from various interactions and told Sudhakaran that it was wrong," Nazar emphasized, highlighting the party's proactive approach in addressing internal concerns before they escalated.
Political Fallout and Concerns
The CPM leader expressed deep concern about Sudhakaran's current trajectory, particularly his preparations to contest from Ambalappuzha constituency under the claim that the party had insulted him. "Such a downfall should not happen to a communist leader. It pains us," Nazar stated emotionally, underscoring the personal and political dimensions of the situation.
Nazar warned that Sudhakaran's actions are creating significant political vulnerabilities. "Sudhakaran's stance weakens both CPM and LDF and benefits BJP and UDF," he cautioned, pointing to the broader implications for Kerala's political alliances. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) faces potential erosion of support while opposition parties stand to gain from internal discord.
Party's Willingness to Address Concerns
Contrary to Sudhakaran's claims of being ignored, Nazar asserted that the party remained open to dialogue. "If he expressed any concerns, the party was ready to address them," he clarified, suggesting that communication channels were available but perhaps not utilized effectively by Sudhakaran.
Official Candidate Announcement
Amid the controversy, Nazar confirmed the party's official position regarding the Ambalappuzha constituency. "H. Salam will be the candidate for the Ambalappuzha constituency, as decided by the party," he announced definitively, putting to rest any speculation about Sudhakaran's potential candidacy under the CPM banner.
Denial of Knowledge About Controversial Poster
Addressing another contentious issue, Nazar categorically denied party involvement in a poster campaign against Sudhakaran that had been attributed to CPM's Ambalappuzha area committee. "The poster against Sudhakaran attributed to CPM's Ambalappuzha area committee was not put up with the party's knowledge," he stated firmly.
Nazar went further to condemn the language used in the poster, particularly the characterization of Sudhakaran as a 'class traitor.' "The party does not approve of anyone calling Sudhakaran a 'class traitor.' He is the elder brother of martyr comrade Bhuvanendran and such a person should not be labelled in this manner," Nazar asserted, showing respect for Sudhakaran's personal history while criticizing his current political choices.
Root Cause of the Protest
Explaining the origins of the protest against Sudhakaran, Nazar pointed to practical political difficulties. "The protest arose due to the difficulties caused by his stance," he explained, suggesting that grassroots party workers were responding to what they perceived as problematic positions taken by the senior leader.
Press Conference Attendees
The press conference saw participation from several key CPM district committee members, including A M Ariff, V G Mohanan, and K G Rajeshwari, indicating collective support for the positions articulated by Nazar regarding the Sudhakaran situation.
This public airing of internal party differences comes at a crucial time for Kerala politics, with implications for both the CPM's internal cohesion and the broader Left Democratic Front's electoral prospects in upcoming contests.
