Tensions flared in Kerala's Kozhikode district as a local leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued a stark warning to the Indian Union Muslim League, hinting at the possibility of violent retaliation. The provocative statements were made by Sameesh, a member of the CPM Beypore area committee, while addressing party workers. The gathering followed a protest march in the Feroke area of Kozhikode. In his speech, Sameesh directly referenced the party's election symbol to convey his threat.
"Our election symbol is the sickle, hammer and star," he stated. "And we know how to use the sickle as well." He then urged IUML workers to refrain from giving the CPM any opportunity to demonstrate that capability. This metaphorical language was interpreted as a direct insinuation of violence.
Reference to Past Clashes and a Dire Threat
Elaborating on the context, the CPM leader pointed to a history of conflict between the cadres of the two parties in Feroke. Sameesh claimed that in all previous clashes, it was the IUML that had suffered losses. He advised the IUML to remember this history and act accordingly.

"If provocations continue, the protest would not be a mere rally but a march towards your houses," Sameesh declared. He further stated that if the IUML persisted in its actions against CPM and its workers, they would be forced to observe a 'black day'.

They asserted that the IUML was in no position to issue diktats to the CPM merely because they had secured victories in a few local wards.
