CPM State Secretary MV Govindan Dismisses Opposition Allegations as 'Absurd'

In a strong rebuttal to recent political accusations, CPM state secretary MV Govindan has categorically dismissed opposition leader VD Satheesan's allegation of a CPM-BJP deal in the Palakkad constituency as absurd and baseless. Addressing the media in Kannur on Sunday, Govindan launched a scathing attack on Satheesan, accusing him of repeatedly spreading falsehoods.

'Vying for a Nobel Prize in Telling Lies'

Govindan stated that there was no need to respond to Satheesan's allegations in detail, as the opposition leader has been making unfounded claims from morning till night. In a sarcastic remark, Govindan claimed, "He seems to be vying for a Nobel Prize in telling lies." This sharp criticism underscores the escalating political rhetoric in Kerala ahead of the assembly elections.

Addressing Rebel Leaders and Party Expulsions

Responding to questions about party leaders-turned-rebels contesting with UDF backing, Govindan clarified the situation regarding individuals such as TK Govindan, V Kunhikrishnan, and G Sudhakaran. He emphasized that these individuals did not leave the party on their own but were expelled as part of CPM's organizational rectification process due to their positions and actions.

Govindan confidently asserted that such rebel leaders will not affect the party's electoral prospects this time. He posed a rhetorical question to highlight the party's strength: "CPM has 5.5 lakh members in Kerala and 2.5 lakh supporters. If four or five people, who the party had expelled for their wrong tendencies, take such actions, do you think that the party will get affected?"

LDF's Election Strategy and Public Appeal

Outlining the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) campaign strategy, Govindan said that LDF will raise two main points before the public in this assembly election:

  • First, that the UDF has joined hands with both majority and minority communalism, a charge aimed at undermining the opposition's credibility.
  • Second, that the opposition in the state has been turning its back on all development activities, portraying them as anti-progress.

Govindan expressed confidence that the people of Kerala will respond to these issues by taking a correct political position, which he believes will set the ground for LDF to register a third consecutive term in power.

Criticism of UDF and BJP's Anti-Development Stand

Further intensifying his attack, Govindan added that both the UDF and BJP will face a strong backlash from the public because of the anti-development stand they have been following for the past 10 years. He elaborated, "Their stand has been that they won't allow any development project to be implemented in our state and that they will not come forward to resist the anti-people policies of the central government."

This statement reinforces LDF's narrative of positioning itself as the sole pro-development force in Kerala, while accusing its rivals of hindering progress and failing to challenge unfavorable central policies.
