Delhi's Economic Survey Projects Robust Growth in Per Capita Income and GSDP

According to the economic survey of 2025-26 presented in the Delhi Assembly by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday, Delhi's per capita income at current prices is anticipated to achieve Rs 5,31,610 as per the Advance Estimate. This figure represents a significant growth of 7.92 per cent compared to the 2024-25 period, highlighting the capital's strong economic momentum.

Delhi's Income Outpaces National Average by a Wide Margin

The survey further reveals that Delhi's per capita income is estimated to be approximately 2.5 times higher than the national average during the 2025-26 fiscal year. This disparity underscores Delhi's position as a leading economic hub in India, with residents benefiting from enhanced earning potential and overall prosperity.

Gross State Domestic Product and Revenue Surplus Show Positive Trends

In terms of broader economic indicators, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of Delhi at current prices for 2025-26 is projected to reach Rs 13,27,055 crore based on advance estimates. This marks an impressive growth of 9.42 per cent over the previous fiscal year, reflecting robust economic activity and development within the state.

Additionally, the budgeted revenue surplus for 2025-26 is set at Rs 9,661.31 crore, which accounts for 0.73 per cent of the GSDP. This surplus indicates prudent fiscal management and a healthy financial position for the Delhi government, enabling further investments in public welfare and infrastructure.

Tax Collection and Budget Allocations Reflect Ambitious Plans

The economic survey also details key financial metrics, noting that tax collection for 2025-26 is budgeted to grow by 15.54 per cent compared to the prior year. This increase is expected to bolster government revenues, supporting expansive budgetary allocations.

For the 2025-26 fiscal year, the total budget stands at Rs 1,00,000 crore, with a substantial portion earmarked for government initiatives. Specifically, Rs 59,300 crore is allocated for Delhi government schemes, programmes, and projects. This allocation represents a significant rise of Rs 20,300 crore from the Rs 39,000 crore budgeted in 2024-25, demonstrating a commitment to accelerated development and enhanced public services.

The economic survey underscores Delhi's economic resilience and growth trajectory, with per capita income and GSDP showing strong upward trends. These figures point to a promising fiscal year ahead, driven by effective governance and strategic financial planning.
