Dumka: Deoghar Municipal Campaign Concludes with Intense Political Activity

The campaign period for the highly anticipated Deoghar Municipal Corporation elections reached its conclusion on Saturday evening, marked by a significant surge in political activity across the region. Prominent political figures from various parties engaged in extensive public contact programs to bolster support for their respective candidates in the upcoming civic polls.

BJP's Aggressive Campaign Strategy

Godda Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey emerged as a central figure in the final campaign push, conducting multiple public meetings and participating in energetic padyatras (foot marches) to rally support for BJP-backed mayoral candidate Rita Chaurasia. During his addresses, Dubey confidently predicted a sweeping victory for BJP-supported candidates across all civic bodies in Jharkhand, with voting scheduled for February 23.

Dubey launched sharp criticism against the state government, accusing it of deliberately avoiding political lines in civic body elections due to what he characterized as fear of electoral competition. The BJP parliamentarian emphasized his party's commitment to transparent democratic processes in municipal governance.

Internal Party Dynamics and Rebel Concerns

In a notable development, Dubey issued a stern warning to rebel BJP leaders, urging them to maintain positive relations with the party hierarchy and avoid creating internal discord. This statement gained particular significance following recent claims by BJP loyalist Nagendra Nath Ballia, who is contesting independently for the mayor position.

Ballia alleged that the BJP had attempted to intimidate him by threatening to reopen previously closed police cases against him. "For the people of Deoghar, I am prepared to confront anyone," declared Ballia defiantly. "If the BJP chooses to disregard my years of service and sacrifices, the public will respond decisively by defeating their candidate and delivering a political lesson to the party."

Multi-Party Contest for Mayoral Position

The electoral landscape features a competitive multi-party contest for the Deoghar mayor position. While the BJP has fielded Rita Chaurasia, the Congress party is backing candidate Ravi Kesari, and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has extended support to Ravi Rawat. In total, eighteen candidates have entered the fray for the prestigious mayoral position, ensuring a vibrant democratic contest.

Political observers note that the Deoghar Municipal Corporation elections represent a crucial test of political influence in the region, with outcomes potentially signaling broader political trends ahead of future state-level elections. The convergence of national and local political figures during the campaign's final phase underscores the significance attached to these municipal polls by all major political formations.
