DK Shivakumar slams Rajanna, questions if he wants CM Siddaramaiah to step down
DK Shivakumar slams Rajanna over CM remarks

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on senior Congress leader K N Rajanna, questioning whether he wants Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to step down. Shivakumar's remarks came after Rajanna claimed that G Parameshwara, who served as Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief for eight years, should have become Chief Minister in 2013 had he not lost his assembly seat.

Shivakumar's sharp response

Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said, 'Does Rajanna want CM Siddaramaiah to step down? I have never sought wages for my hard work. I have always worked for the party and the people.' He accused Rajanna of making irresponsible statements that could create confusion within the party.

Rajanna's earlier comments

Rajanna, a former minister, had asserted that Parameshwara was KPCC chief for eight years and if only he had not lost his seat, he should have been the Chief Minister in 2013. 'Parameshwara was a strong leader and deserved the top post,' Rajanna had said, adding that the party should have considered him.

Internal party tensions

The exchange highlights growing internal tensions within the Karnataka Congress. Shivakumar, who is also the state Congress president, has been a loyalist of Siddaramaiah, while Rajanna is seen as a supporter of Parameshwara. Political analysts suggest that such statements could widen the rift between factions ahead of the upcoming elections.

Shivakumar's defense of Siddaramaiah

Shivakumar defended Siddaramaiah's leadership, stating that the Chief Minister has done exemplary work for the state. 'Siddaramaiah is our leader and we stand united behind him. There is no question of any change in leadership,' he said. He urged party workers to focus on developmental work rather than internal squabbles.

Parameshwara's silence

G Parameshwara, who is currently the Home Minister, has remained silent on the controversy. Sources close to him say he does not wish to comment on Rajanna's statements and is focused on his ministerial duties.

Political implications

The incident comes at a time when the Congress is trying to consolidate its position in Karnataka. With the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) gearing up for the next assembly elections, any internal discord could prove costly. Shivakumar's strong rebuttal is seen as an attempt to assert his authority and reaffirm his loyalty to Siddaramaiah.

Meanwhile, Rajanna has not responded to Shivakumar's comments. Political observers are watching closely to see if the party leadership will intervene to resolve the differences.
