DMK Cadres Paste Posters Against Minister Shajahan

Trichy: DMK cadres in Papanasam constituency of Thanjavur district pasted posters in public places condemning minority welfare minister A M Shajahan over his remarks that the DMK would be “wiped out” if the TVK ruled the state for five years.

MMK Leader Criticizes Minister

Nagapattinam MLA and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) president A H Jawahirullah also criticised the minister, describing his comments as an expression of arrogance. Addressing reporters in Nagapattinam on Tuesday, Jawahirullah said Shajahan had become a minister with the support of the DMK. “It is an expression of arrogance for Shajahan to speak against the DMK in this manner,” he said.

Drawing a comparison with Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, Jawahirullah said, “King Shah Jahan built a tomb for Mumtaz. Minister Shajahan is doing work that will build a grave for the party to which he belongs.”

Shajahan's Remarks at Aruppukottai

Shajahan had made the remarks while addressing a meeting in Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district. He alleged that the DMK was unable to accept a representative of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) becoming a minister and had therefore been targeting the party. He further claimed that the DMK would be out of power for 50 years if a TVK government ruled for five years.

Wall Posters in Papanasam

The wall posters were pasted in public places in Papanasam, where the IUML MLA was elected. The posters stated that he had won the election with the support of the DMK and labelled him a “chameleon”. The DMK unit demanded an apology from him.

Inauguration of MLA Office

Earlier in the day, the renovated office of the Nagapattinam MLA was inaugurated by DMK Nagapattinam district secretary N Gowthaman.
