Virudhunagar: A suspect in connection with the burglary at the residence of a DMK Sattur constituency candidate surrendered before the Sattur judicial magistrate II court on Friday. The suspect, identified as Arockia John Bosco, 40, from Mudukulathur in Ramanathapuram district, reportedly has 44 criminal cases pending against him, including murder, robbery and rape.
The incident occurred on Monday night, April 13, when Kadarkarairaj, the DMK candidate for the Sattur assembly constituency, was participating in an election campaign alongside CPI(M) state secretary Shanmugam in Sathirapatti area near Rajapalayam. Unidentified intruders broke into his home, taking advantage of the constant influx of party workers and visitors at the candidate's residence. The burglars looted 122 sovereigns of gold jewellery kept in a bureau.
Following a complaint, the Sattur Town police registered a case and a special team was formed to nab the accused. After reviewing CCTV footage from the neighbourhood, investigators identified a three-member gang behind the robbery and launched a manhunt. Meanwhile, on Friday, Bosco surrendered before court. The magistrate remanded him to three days of police custody for further interrogation. Police have intensified their search to nab the remaining two accomplices.
The police have urged the public to provide any information regarding the whereabouts of the other suspects. Investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen gold jewellery and uncover the full extent of the gang's criminal activities. The case highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling repeat offenders with multiple pending cases.
