The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party on Saturday unveiled its comprehensive list of 164 candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April 23. The announcement, made by Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin, revealed a strategic blend of experienced incumbents and fresh faces, with the party retaining most sitting ministers while introducing more than 60 first-time candidates.

In a significant development, three sitting ministers - N Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, T Mano Thangaraj, and R Gandhi - were denied party tickets for the forthcoming elections. Meanwhile, the list features prominent figures who recently crossed over from the opposition AIADMK, including three-time former chief minister O Panneerselvam, who has been fielded from the Bodinayakanur constituency.
Panneerselvam's associates Paul Manoj Pandian and R Vaithilingam have also received DMK tickets for Alangulam and Orathanadu constituencies respectively, marking a strategic incorporation of former AIADMK leaders into the DMK fold.
Stalin's Announcement and Campaign Plans
Addressing reporters during the list's release, Chief Minister M K Stalin remarked, "Though we are late, we are the latest", emphasizing the party's comprehensive preparation. Stalin explained the delayed announcement resulted from extensive negotiations with alliance partners, stating that while 2021 featured a "mega alliance", the current coalition represents a "mega mega alliance" requiring careful seat distribution to satisfy all participating parties.
The Chief Minister outlined the party's campaign roadmap, revealing that DMK's election manifesto will be released on Sunday, with his personal campaign commencing from March 31. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will begin campaigning from April 1, while DMK Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will start her campaign activities from March 30.
