Maharashtra's ₹15 Crore Boost: Dombivli Gets Next-Gen Sports Complex & War Memorial
Dombivli's Transformation with New Sports Arena & Civic Projects

The city of Dombivli in Maharashtra is undergoing a significant urban transformation, marked by the launch of next-generation sports infrastructure and iconic civic projects. Spearheaded by MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, this bold development drive aims to reshape the region's landscape, focusing on youth, sports, and cultural enrichment.

Phase-Wise Redevelopment of Sant Sawalaram Sports Complex

The cornerstone of this transformation is the massive redevelopment of the Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Sports Complex. The first phase, which brings a major upgrade, features a multi-storey sports building sprawling over 25,000 square meters. This phase is designed to establish Dombivli as a modern sports hub, complete with Olympic-level swimming pools, international-grade indoor arenas, and a substantial parking facility covering 16,000 sq. meters.

The revamped indoor complex will host world-class facilities for a variety of sports including badminton, table tennis, karate, judo, squash, snooker, shooting, gymnastics, and yoga. These arenas are equipped with modern flooring, advanced lighting, and robust safety systems, ensuring they meet national and international standards for training and competitions.

Outdoor Stadium and Broader Vision

The second phase of the project will introduce a cutting-edge outdoor stadium to complement the indoor facilities. Planned with spectator stands, athletic tracks, open training zones, and professional-grade turf, this stadium is poised to host major tournaments and foster a vibrant outdoor sports culture across the Kalyan-Dombivli region.

These initiatives represent a concerted push for urban and youth-centric development, made possible through the efforts of MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde with support from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), and senior state leadership.

Prerna War Memorial: A Tribute to the Armed Forces

In a parallel civic achievement, Dombivli has unveiled the Prerna War Memorial, noted as Maharashtra's first civic-built war tribute. Conceptualized by KDMC and Padma Shri awardee Gajanan Mane, the memorial emphasizes sustainability through the use of green materials, efficient energy planning, and thoughtful landscaping.

The memorial's design blends modern architecture with patriotic symbolism. It features impressive replicas of INS Vinash, the BrahMos missile, a Tejas fighter jet, a 19th-century cannon, and statues representing the three branches of the Indian armed forces. The immersive layout is crafted to offer visitors an educational and emotionally powerful experience, inspiring youth towards service and national pride.

Cultural Infrastructure Gets a Modern Makeover

Adding to the civic upgrade is the redevelopment of the Savitri Bai Phule Auditorium. With a sanctioned budget of ₹15 crore, the project will transform the venue into a state-of-the-art cultural center. Key improvements include an advanced stage setup, enhanced seating capacity, upgraded lighting and sound technologies, and refined audience amenities. This renovation is set to strengthen the auditorium's role as a key hub for arts and performances in the region.

Together, these projects—the sports complex, the war memorial, and the cultural auditorium—signal a new era for Dombivli. They reflect a comprehensive strategy to boost urban infrastructure, provide modern amenities for residents, and create spaces that foster community, health, and patriotism.
