Drunk Man's High-Tension Pole Climb in Bhadohi Triggers Panic and Two-Hour Rescue Operation
In a startling incident that unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Bhadohi district, a 58-year-old man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, scaled a high-tension transmission pole, creating a perilous situation that lasted for over two hours. The event occurred in Ugapur village under the Aurai police station limits, sending shockwaves through the local community and prompting an urgent response from authorities.
Details of the Dangerous Ascent
The man, identified as Jagdish Yadav, a resident of Hirapur village in the same area, climbed over 50 feet up the pole around 1 pm. He positioned himself precariously between two 11,000-volt wires, using a cloth to tie himself to his perch. Police reported that although no current was flowing through the lines at the time, the risk of power restoration posed a severe threat to his life.
Police and Fire Department Response
Inspector Ashwini Kumar Tripathi stated that upon receiving a distress call, police rushed to the scene. They spread mattresses on the ground as a safety measure and attempted to persuade Yadav to climb down. However, due to heavy intoxication, he refused to listen and continued talking incoherently, ignoring repeated appeals from officials.
With the danger escalating, authorities coordinated with the power department to ensure the electricity supply remained shut off. They also called in the fire department, which eventually brought Yadav down safely using a ladder, nearly two hours after his initial ascent. No injuries were reported in the incident, thanks to the swift action of the rescue teams.
Family Background and Aftermath
After the rescue, Yadav was handed over to his family members. They informed the police that he is a habitual drinker and had left home earlier in the day in an inebriated state. This revelation highlighted ongoing concerns about alcohol abuse in the region, though no legal action was taken against Yadav following the incident.
The event has sparked discussions on electrical safety awareness and the need for community vigilance. It serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by high-tension infrastructure and the unpredictable behavior that can result from intoxication.
