Dombivli's ₹180 Cr Sports Complex & War Memorial Inaugurated by Eknath Shinde
Eknath Shinde Inaugurates Major Dombivli Development Projects

Dombivli is poised for a significant urban transformation with a series of high-profile inaugurations led by Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. The event, held on Saturday at the Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Mhatre Sports Ground, marked the launch of several long-awaited projects aimed at boosting sports infrastructure, cultural facilities, and patriotic sentiment in the region.

Mega Redevelopment of Sports and Cultural Hubs

The centerpiece of the development drive is the ambitious redevelopment of the Sant Sawalaram Maharaj Sports Complex. The first phase of this project, funded by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) with an investment of ₹180 crore, will see the construction of a sprawling multi-storey sports building across 25,000 square meters.

The complex promises world-class amenities, including an Olympic-standard swimming pool, an international diving pool, and advanced indoor arenas for sports like badminton, table tennis, karate, judo, squash, snooker, shooting, gymnastics, and yoga. A substantial 16,000 sq. meter parking facility is also part of the plan. Following completion, the maintenance will be transferred to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). A second phase is planned to develop a state-of-the-art outdoor stadium.

Simultaneously, the cultural landscape will be enhanced with the renovation of the Savitri Bai Phule Auditorium. KDMC has sanctioned ₹15 crore for the first phase of upgrades, which will modernize the stage, increase seating capacity, and install advanced lighting and sound systems to improve the experience for audiences.

Prerna War Memorial: A First-of-its-Kind Tribute

A highlight of the inauguration was the opening of the Prerna War Memorial Centre, a unique project conceptualized by KDMC and Padma Shri awardee Gajanan Mane. Hailed as Maharashtra's first such memorial built by a civic body, it is designed with modern, eco-friendly architecture to inspire youth to consider careers in the armed forces and foster national pride.

The memorial features symbolic replicas of key defense assets, including INS Vinash, the BrahMos supersonic missile, and the Tejas fighter jet. It also displays a 19th-century war cannon and statues representing the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Political Backing and Future Impact

All these projects are credited to the persistent efforts of local MP, Dr. Shrikant Shinde. The ceremony was attended by Industries Minister Uday Samant, underscoring the government's focus on regional development. These initiatives are expected to significantly elevate the quality of life in Kalyan-Dombivli, providing residents with top-tier sports facilities, a revitalized cultural venue, and a solemn space for patriotic reflection. The developments signal a major step in the area's urban infrastructure growth, with long-term benefits for community engagement, youth development, and civic pride.
