Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Denies Drug Consumption at Hyderabad Party
Eluru MP Putta Mahesh has firmly denied allegations of consuming drugs at a party held in Hyderabad last week. The controversy erupted when Telangana police raided a farmhouse owned by BRS leader Rohith Reddy, booking Mahesh and six others under the NDPS Act.
MP's Detailed Response to TDP Show-Cause Notice
In his reply to a show-cause notice issued by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Mahesh stated that he has never used drugs, including on the day of the police raid. "I was invited by a friend and went there for dinner. I have never consumed drugs either in the past or on the day of the party in Hyderabad. I will fully abide by the party's decision on the issue," he emphasized.
Sources reveal that Mahesh attached medical test reports from AIIMS-Delhi and a private laboratory in Hyderabad, both of which came back negative for drug consumption. However, the timing of when his samples were collected remains unclear.
Health and Conspiracy Claims Surface
Mahesh further elaborated that he does not even drink alcohol, let alone use drugs. He suggested he might have been "deliberately implicated" in the case due to a mistaken belief that he is the son-in-law of a former BRS minister.
Adding to the defense, his father and TDP legislator Putta Sudhakar Yadav claimed that Mahesh underwent heart surgery in 2021, making his health too fragile for drug use. "My son underwent heart surgery, which makes his health status fragile. He has been following a strict diet and health regimen as per the advice of doctors. The allegations against him are baseless," Yadav stated.
Yadav also alleged a potential conspiracy, noting that police announced positive test results without taking blood samples, raising questions about the investigation's integrity.
TDP's Next Steps in the Disciplinary Process
State TDP president Palla Srinivas received Mahesh's explanation in a sealed cover and plans to open it in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday. Naidu is expected to refer the matter to the TDP disciplinary committee, headed by politburo member Varla Ramaiah, or a separate committee within a few days.
The committee will be tasked with studying Mahesh's response and recommending appropriate action, as the party navigates this sensitive issue amid ongoing legal and political scrutiny.
