Etawah Administration Launches Major Crackdown on Illegal Mining Operations
In a significant enforcement drive, the district administration of Etawah has executed a comprehensive crackdown targeting illegal mining activities, vehicle overloading, and transportation violations. The operation, conducted under the direct supervision of the District Magistrate (DM) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), resulted in the seizure of 32 dumpers and trucks along with the collection of substantial compounding fees.
Multi-Departmental Campaign Against Mining Violations
The administration initiated a joint campaign involving coordinated teams from the police, revenue, and transport departments to curb the rampant issues of illegal mining and excessive vehicle loading. Intensive checking operations were conducted across potential mining zones, with strategic blockades established on major highways and expressways to intercept suspicious vehicles.
During the rigorous inspections, authorities discovered numerous vehicles operating without valid permits, essential documentation, and in some cases, even lacking proper number plates. The enforcement teams specifically targeted overloaded vehicles that were causing substantial damage to road infrastructure by carrying loads far beyond their designated capacity limits.
Substantial Seizures and Financial Penalties
The operation yielded significant results with the confiscation of 32 dumpers and trucks that were illegally transporting sand and gravel. All vehicles found violating transportation regulations were immediately seized on the spot. Additionally, the task force collected a compounding fee totaling Rs 5,18,000 for various infractions including traffic rule violations and breaches of transport standards.
The enforcement action created considerable panic among those involved in illegal transportation activities. As checking commenced on the Bundelkhand Expressway and Agra-Kanpur Highway, several vehicle drivers abandoned their vehicles and fled the scene to avoid apprehension.
Continuous Operations Across Key Areas
Continuous enforcement operations were carried out in the Bharthana, Ekdil, and Jaswantnagar regions, conducted in the presence of police personnel and administrative officials. These sustained efforts created an atmosphere of apprehension among individuals engaged in unlawful mining and transportation activities.
In a separate but related action near the roundabout under the Bundelkhand Expressway, authorities intercepted and seized 11 additional overloaded dumpers and trucks. These vehicles were subsequently transported and parked at the Bharthana police station for further investigation and processing.
Leadership and Multi-Agency Coordination
The operation was spearheaded by ASP Shrish Chandra, with support from CO Bharthana Ramdaban Maurya, ARTO Pradeep Deshmani, Yatrikar officer Vivek Kumar Singh, and mining officer Brij Bihari. Local police station staff remained actively engaged throughout the campaign, ensuring comprehensive coverage and enforcement.
Teams from multiple government departments including transport, mining, and GST conducted thorough inspections of seized vehicles and initiated summon fee proceedings against violators. This multi-agency approach ensured that all aspects of illegal mining and transportation violations were adequately addressed.
Commitment to Sustained Enforcement
SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava made a clear statement regarding the administration's determination to continue this campaign against illegal mining and overloading without any reduction in intensity. The official emphasized that such enforcement actions would remain ongoing to effectively curb these unlawful practices that damage public infrastructure and violate environmental regulations.
The comprehensive operation demonstrates the administration's serious commitment to addressing the persistent issues of illegal mining and transportation violations that have plagued the region. By combining strategic highway blockades with multi-departmental coordination, authorities have sent a strong message to those involved in these illegal activities.
