Pudukottai: Supporters Rally Behind Former AIADMK Minister Amid Switch to TVK
Amid speculation about a switch to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), supporters and loyalists of former AIADMK minister C Vijayabaskar gathered in Pudukottai on Wednesday. Vijayabaskar had resigned as an AIADMK MLA and party member on Tuesday. The gathering passed a resolution declaring their unwavering support for him, even if it meant joining the TVK.
Resolution Criticizes AIADMK Leadership
At the meeting, loyalists, including several party functionaries, passed a resolution criticizing the AIADMK leadership under Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). The resolution expressed strong support for the former minister’s future course of action, indicating a potential shift in political allegiance.
A source close to Vijayabaskar claimed that more than 25 party functionaries holding positions unanimously supported the resolution. “While a channel of communication remained open with the DMK as well, he has finally decided to join TVK. He has sought an appointment with the TVK chief in Panaiyur on June 19 or 20, and other supporters are expected to join later,” the source said.
DMK Ruled Out Amid Controversy
On Tuesday, there was speculation that Vijayabaskar might consider joining the DMK. However, that possibility was ruled out after former deputy chief minister Udhayanidhi Stalin issued a statement. He indirectly referred to Vijayabaskar as the fifth AIADMK MLA to join TVK, calling it part of a “horse-trading sofa model arrangement.”
Meanwhile, AIADMK leaders, including former deputy leader of the opposition R B Udhayakumar, slammed Vijayabaskar’s purported move. They accused him of attempting to save himself from pending cases.
