Fadnavis Breaks Silence on Ajit Pawar Plane Crash, Calls for Caution Amid Conspiracy Claims
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has publicly addressed the swirling controversy surrounding the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, urging the public and political figures to refrain from hasty judgments. Speaking to the media in Mumbai on Wednesday, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of awaiting official investigation reports before drawing conclusions, while acknowledging the doubts raised by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar.
Investigation Underway, Patience Advised
The investigation into the aeroplane crash is being conducted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), with a parallel probe by the state CID also in progress. Fadnavis stated, "We should wait for the probe report. Don't rush to draw conclusions." He highlighted that the black box from the aircraft has been recovered, which is crucial for determining the cause of the crash that occurred in Baramati on January 28.
Rohit Pawar's Allegations and Fadnavis's Response
Earlier this week, Rohit Pawar, a member of the Pawar family, publicly suggested that a conspiracy could not be ruled out in Ajit Pawar's death. He presented a detailed hour-long presentation with 54 slides, raising questions about alleged discrepancies in visibility data, the last-minute replacement of the pilot, and changes in Ajit Pawar's travel itinerary. Fadnavis acknowledged these concerns, noting, "Ajit Pawar was a big leader who was looked up to and loved by people in Maharashtra. It is understandable that people are raising questions and doubts. Rohit Pawar has raised doubts."
However, Fadnavis cautioned against politicizing the tragedy. "If somebody has concerns or raises a doubt, it's not wrong. But if it is being done for politics, it defeats the purpose," he warned. He reiterated that he was the first to write to the Centre demanding an investigation, which the Ministry of Civil Aviation promptly approved.
Capability of Indian Agencies and Call for Formal Action
In response to Rohit Pawar's demand for foreign agencies to probe the case, Fadnavis defended the competence of Indian investigative bodies. "Indian agencies are capable. They are of international standards. Yet, if there are concerns, Rohit Pawar should formally take up the matter with the DGCA," he advised. This statement underscores the government's confidence in domestic procedures while leaving room for addressing specific grievances through proper channels.
Fadnavis concluded by terming Ajit Pawar's death "very unfortunate and sad" and stressed that the investigation will ultimately reveal the facts to the public, urging all parties to avoid speculative politics during this sensitive time.
