A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded late on Saturday night in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, as three members of a family, including a three-year-old child, were burned alive after their car crashed off the Baihar-Malajkhand road and caught fire. The incident occurred near the Kewalari intersection between 11 pm and midnight, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to initial police reports, the vehicle veered off the road before bursting into flames, leading to a catastrophic scene. The deceased have been identified as Nagarchi Kelkar, 65, Savita Kelkar, 28, and Abhi Kelkar, 3. In a desperate rescue effort, passersby bravely broke the car windowpanes and managed to pull three occupants from the burning wreckage.

Among the survivors, an eight-year-old girl, Purvi Rahangdale, miraculously escaped unhurt. However, the driver, Seetam Kelkar, 30, and his mother Nana Bai Kelkar, 60, sustained severe burn injuries. They were immediately referred to a hospital in Gondia district of neighbouring Maharashtra for urgent medical treatment.

Police revealed that Seetam Kelkar, a resident of Pondi in the Paraswada area, operates a welding shop in Pauni, Malajkhand. He had visited his native village with his wife and child three days prior and was returning to Pauni on Saturday night along with his parents, wife, son, and a neighbour's child when the horrific accident occurred.

Upon receiving information, a police team and fire brigade staff rushed to the spot. Despite their prompt response, the flames had already taken a devastating toll by the time they were brought under control. Tragically, three occupants had succumbed to their injuries. The bodies have been sent to Baihar hospital for post-mortem examination, and authorities have initiated a thorough probe to determine the exact cause of the crash and fire.

This incident underscores the critical importance of road safety measures in rural areas, as families and communities mourn the loss of loved ones in this avoidable catastrophe.
