Former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman YV Subba Reddy faced intense questioning by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Friday in connection with the high-profile Parakamani theft case that has shaken the spiritual community.
Intense Questioning Session
The Rajya Sabha MP and prominent YSRCP leader was interrogated for over an hour by CID DGP Ravi Shankar Ayyanar at the CID office. The focus of the investigation centered on why mandatory newspaper notifications were not issued when the prime accused in the Parakamani case, CV Ravi Kumar and his wife CV Ramya, donated seven valuable properties to the TTD.
These properties, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 14 crore, became a central point of controversy in the investigation. The CID sought to understand the procedural lapses and administrative decisions that allowed this transaction to proceed without proper public notification.
Subba Reddy's Defense
According to sources familiar with the investigation, Subba Reddy maintained that Ravi Kumar's properties were taken into TTD possession in May 2023. He further explained that the administrative action was presented before the trust board for formal ratification a month later in June 2023.
Speaking to reporters after his questioning session, the former TTD chief expressed his full cooperation with the investigation. "I answered all the questions posed to me during the enquiry," Subba Reddy stated confidently.
Call for Thorough Investigation
The YSRCP leader didn't mince words when describing the severity of the alleged crime. "Stealing from the God's coffers (Parakamani) is a heinous sin. Whoever is involved in this should be punished," he declared emphatically.
In a significant revelation, Subba Reddy claimed that the Parakamani theft issue came to his notice only after his tenure as TTD chairman had ended. He went a step further by urging the CID to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover any attempts to suppress the matter.
"I also asked the CID to conduct a detailed investigation to find out who all tried to hush up the issue," the politician added, suggesting there might be more layers to this complex case.
The investigation continues as authorities piece together the complete picture of one of the most significant financial scandals to hit the renowned temple administration in recent years.
