Four Lives Lost in Separate Road Accidents Across Chennai and Tiruvallur
A devastating series of road accidents in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts on Friday resulted in the tragic deaths of four individuals, including a young student and a software engineer, underscoring persistent traffic safety issues in the region.
First Incident: Triple-Riding Motorcycle Hit by Lorry
In the initial tragedy, Yashwanth, a 13-year-old Class VII student attending a government-aided school in Tiruvallur, was triple-riding on a motorcycle with two college students—Rajpriyan, 19, and Rishi, 18, from Avadi. The group was traveling near the new flyover on the Chennai-Tirupathi National Highway bypass at Eekadu when a lorry approaching from behind collided with their motorcycle.
All three riders were violently thrown from the vehicle and rushed to Tiruvallur Government Medical College Hospital. Tragically, Yashwanth succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while Rajpriyan and Rishi are currently undergoing medical treatment for their wounds.
Second Incident: Software Engineer Run Over by Bus
In a separate accident, Mohana, a 22-year-old software engineer residing in Kamarajar Nagar near Nandhivaram Guduvanchery, was traveling from Guduvanchery to Perungalathur on a motorcycle with her friend, Mohan Kumar. Their bike collided with a private company bus, causing both to fall onto the road.
In a horrific turn, Mohana was subsequently run over by the bus, resulting in her immediate death. Mohan Kumar was rescued from the scene and transported to a nearby private hospital for care. The Tambaram traffic investigation police have arrested the bus driver, identified as John Draik, 60, from New Perungalathur, in connection with the incident.
Third Incident: Head-On Collision on Outer Ring Road
Later on Friday night, Kamesh, a 26-year-old resident of Sevvapet near Tiruvallur, was driving his car toward Sevvapet on the Chennai-Tirupathi Outer Ring Road opposite Kakkalur SIDCO. A lorry coming from the opposite direction struck his car head-on, leading to Kamesh's death at the spot.
The Tiruvallur taluk police responded to the scene, seized the body, and sent it to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for a postmortem examination as part of the investigation into this fatal collision.
Fourth Incident: Elderly Pedestrian Struck by Goods Vehicle
In another tragic event, Palaniswami, a 70-year-old man from Indira Gandhi Street in Kollachery near Kundrathur, was crossing the road at a four-way junction in Kollachery on Friday afternoon. A goods vehicle traveling from the wrong direction hit him, throwing him out and causing serious injuries.
He was urgently taken to Tambaram Government Hospital but died without receiving treatment. Authorities have registered a case, and the driver of the goods vehicle, Mathiyazhagan, 49, from Anna Nagar in Trichy, has been arrested in relation to this fatal incident.
These four separate accidents collectively highlight critical road safety challenges in the Chennai and Tiruvallur areas, raising concerns about traffic management, driver behavior, and pedestrian safety. The loss of lives, including those of a young student and a professional, has left communities grieving and calls for enhanced measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
