The agitation traces back to February 10, when Naik allegedly visited Father Polly Lobo at Colva church regarding a property dispute involving a local resident and a Delhi-based builder. This visit sparked widespread outrage among villagers, who accused the officer of misconduct and overstepping his authority.
Previous Protests and Demands
Following the initial incident, villagers led by Viegas protested at the police station for several hours, demanding Naik's transfer, a public apology, and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against him. To defuse the situation at that time, authorities had temporarily transferred Naik to the South district reserve line, a move that was intended to calm tensions but proved insufficient in the long term.

Superintendent of Police Siddanth Shirodkar later met with the MLA and villagers, urging them to disperse while assuring that higher authorities would review the matter thoroughly.
