Gujarat Chief Minister Inaugurates Major Tribal Development Initiatives in Tapi

In a significant move aimed at boosting infrastructure and welfare in tribal regions, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel virtually laid the foundation stones for development projects valued at Rs 1,600 crore in Tapi district on Monday. The comprehensive package includes critical irrigation schemes based on the Ukai reservoir, specifically targeting the areas of Songadh, Uchhal, and Nizar, along with the Borisavar Yojana.

Focus on Holistic Tribal Welfare and Infrastructure

Addressing the virtual ceremony, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized that the state government has prioritized the holistic development of tribal communities through the Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana. He highlighted that result-oriented efforts have been consistently undertaken to enhance education, healthcare, and connectivity for the tribal population, ensuring their overall progress and integration into the state's growth narrative.

The newly launched lift irrigation schemes are designed to address water scarcity in hilly terrains by utilizing resources from the Ukai dam. According to the CM, the Songadh, Uchhal, and Nizar lift irrigation projects, coupled with the Borisavar lift irrigation scheme, will guarantee year-round water supply to farmers, thereby boosting agricultural productivity and livelihoods in these regions.

Administrative Appointment: Ashish Kumar Named Secretary to Deputy CM

In a related administrative development, the General Administration Department (GAD) issued a notification on Monday appointing 2014-batch IAS officer Ashish Kumar as the secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. This appointment marks a notable precedent, as it is the first instance of an IAS officer being designated to this role within the state's administrative framework.

The notification further clarified that Ashish Kumar will retain the additional responsibility of Director of Tribal Development until further orders, underscoring the government's continued focus on tribal affairs and streamlined governance.

This dual development underscores the Gujarat government's concerted efforts to enhance both infrastructural and administrative capacities, with a clear emphasis on uplifting tribal areas and ensuring efficient public service delivery.
