Gujarat Police Conducts Major Transfer and Posting Exercise Ahead of Elections
In a significant administrative move preceding local body elections, the Gujarat Police executed a large-scale transfer and posting exercise on Thursday. The department transferred 518 police inspectors (PIs) and issued formal postings to 254 officers recently promoted from the rank of sub-inspector to inspector.
Details of the Transfer Orders
Orders issued by in-charge Director General of Police K L N Rao mandated that the 254 promoted inspectors be assigned to various postings across police stations, districts, and specialised units. Many of these officers had remained in their previous locations following their promotion and have now received official assignments as part of this reshuffle.
The transfer of 518 unarmed police inspectors targeted those who had served more than three years in the same police station or within the same city or district. Officials clarified that this action aligns with a routine transfer policy aimed at maintaining administrative efficiency and preventing stagnation.
Impact on Ahmedabad and Specialised Units
In Ahmedabad city specifically, 47 police inspectors have been transferred to other cities, districts, and agencies. This includes officers from prominent police stations such as Naroda, Narol, Ranip, and Gaekwad Haveli. Some officials who previously served in Ahmedabad have been posted back to the city, while others have been moved from units like intelligence to field postings to enhance operational effectiveness.
Additionally, inspectors who continued in the same posting for over a year after their promotion have now been reassigned to new roles. The reshuffle also extends to specialised wings, with more than 40 inspectors deployed in the CID Crime department and 17 assigned to the Cyber Crime Centre of Excellence. This deployment is intended to bolster efforts in handling the increasing cases of financial and cyber offences across the state.
This comprehensive administrative exercise underscores the Gujarat Police's commitment to optimizing resource allocation and ensuring robust law enforcement ahead of critical electoral processes.
