In a concerted effort to bolster security and uphold public order, the Gurgaon police apprehended 309 individuals for allegedly consuming alcohol in public spaces during a specialized drive conducted across the city on Tuesday night. The operation was executed under the directives of Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj and Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Karan Goyal.
Operation Details
Police teams conducted thorough checks at parks, parking areas, roadside stretches, and other public locations where people were reportedly found drinking and disturbing public order. According to police officials, all 309 detainees were taken into custody under Section 172(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which pertains to preventive actions aimed at maintaining public order.
The drive was specifically designed to curb hooliganism and ensure peace in public spaces, police said. Officials further stated that similar actions would continue against those found consuming alcohol in public places or engaging in activities that disrupt law and order.
Eid al-Adha Security Measures
In parallel, the police have strengthened security arrangements ahead of the Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) festival across the city. Approximately 860 police personnel will be deployed under the supervision of all deputy commissioners of police. Security has been tightened at major prayer sites, mosques, sensitive areas, and densely populated localities.
Police confirmed that PCR units, rider teams, patrolling units, and special teams have been activated to prevent any untoward incidents during the festival. “Authorities are also monitoring social media platforms, and legal action will be taken against anyone found spreading rumours or attempting to disturb communal harmony,” said Police Spokesperson Sandeep Tarun.
Coordination meetings were held with peace committee members and local representatives to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival. Traffic diversions and additional police deployment have been planned around major prayer sites to manage congestion during Bakrid prayers.
Surveillance will also be maintained at crowded markets, bus stands, railway stations, and other public places, police said. Citizens have been urged to immediately inform the police about any suspicious activity or issues related to law and order.
