Guwahati is undergoing extensive preparations ahead of the chief minister's swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday. The city is being decorated to present a fresh and vibrant look for the high-profile event, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several union ministers, and chief ministers from various states.
Beautification and Cleaning Drives Underway
Officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed that workers have been repainting pavements, road dividers, and railings in multiple areas across the city. Decorative lights have been installed on several flyovers and lamp posts to illuminate the city during the ceremony.
Cleaning drives are also being conducted extensively. Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) workers are actively clearing garbage and cleaning public spaces. GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania stated, "Areas in Khanapara, where the swearing-in ceremony will take place, are being cleaned daily. Our workers are fully prepared, as lakhs of people, including dignitaries, will be present. We are committed to maintaining cleanliness throughout the event."
Special Focus on Ceremony Venue and Surroundings
The areas surrounding the ceremony venue and the major roads leading to it are receiving special attention from the administration. Police and traffic officials have begun making arrangements to regulate vehicular movement and ensure security during the event.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah announced traffic restrictions: "No heavy vehicles such as trucks, dumpers, JCBs, hydras, or other slow-moving vehicles will be allowed on NH-27 from Koinadhora Point to Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra and onward to Azara."
Borah urged residents to avoid NH-27 on the day of the ceremony and instead use the Guwahati–Shillong Road. "Passengers traveling to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport are advised to leave at least two hours before their scheduled departure," he added. Traffic restrictions will be in effect from 9 am to 2 pm.
