Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in a devastating fire at D-Park market in Rohtak. The blaze, which occurred on Tuesday evening, gutted more than 10 shops and destroyed several vehicles, mostly two-wheelers parked outside.
Financial Assistance Announced
The Chief Minister also declared financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh for each injured person. He assured that the state government would provide free medical treatment to all the injured at government hospitals. Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Saini conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and directed the Rohtak Deputy Commissioner to assess the losses and prepare a detailed report for further action.
Victims Identified
Three persons were charred to death in the blaze. Although official identification is pending, family members have identified the victims as Kapil, Aman, and Saurabh. Their bodies were recovered from the debris after firefighters brought the fire under control. Post-mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted at PGIMS, Rohtak, on Wednesday.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined. However, eyewitnesses claimed that it started after an explosion in an air-conditioner compressor inside a showroom. The flames quickly spread to adjoining shops, engulfing a large section of the market within minutes. Firefighting teams battled the blaze for more than six hours before bringing it under control. Authorities are investigating the incident and assessing the extent of the damage.
“We pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and assure full support from the state government during this difficult time. The government remains committed to extending all possible assistance to the affected families,” Saini said.
Political Reactions
Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda visited the spot and urged the state government to provide jobs to the families of the deceased and compensate affected shopkeepers for damage to their buildings, shops, and goods. He also demanded adequate compensation for the injured and a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
