In a stern directive aimed at strengthening law and order, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday issued a clear warning to police and administrative officers, stating that those failing to control crime would be held personally accountable and could face punitive action, including demotion.
Zero Tolerance for Negligence in Public Safety
Addressing the media after a pre-Budget consultation meeting, CM Saini declared that public safety is non-negotiable for his government. He emphasized that negligence at any level, especially in matters affecting citizen security, would not be tolerated. "Law and order remains the state government’s priority," Saini stated, outlining a new framework of strict accountability.
The Chief Minister specified that in police station areas where crime is not effectively controlled, responsibility would be fixed on the concerned officers. "If lapses are found, stringent action, including demotion of delinquent Superintendents of Police and Station House Officers will be initiated," he said. The clear objective, he added, is to ensure discipline, accountability, and tangible results on the ground.
Immediate Action on Complaints, Especially from Women
Saini placed special emphasis on the need for a responsive police force. He stressed that complaints from citizens, particularly women, regarding any crime or illegal activity must be addressed immediately and effectively. "Any delay, indifference or negligence in responding to public grievances would invite strict consequences," the CM warned.
He acknowledged that the Haryana Police is a capable force but insisted that capability must translate into visible performance. The CM linked any rise in crime or the illegal drug trade in a particular area directly to administrative failure, calling for serious introspection by the officers in charge. He stated that regular review meetings, identifying root causes, and implementing concrete solutions are core responsibilities, not optional tasks.
Law and Order as a Pillar of Governance and Growth
The Chief Minister underlined that governance extends beyond economic planning. While discussing the upcoming State Budget, which he said would be dedicated to public welfare and formulated through participatory processes, Saini connected a stable law-and-order environment directly to the state's prosperity.
"Haryana’s industrial growth, employment generation and overall development depend heavily on a stable law-and-order environment," he noted. He pointed out that industries are expanding rapidly in the state and that investor confidence is closely linked to safety and effective policing. The warning of demotion, he indicated, is a measure to reinforce seriousness and deter complacency within the system, ensuring both economic growth and public security.
CM Saini directed police and district administrations to intensify campaigns against crime and drugs, reiterating that maintaining law and order is central to good governance and that officers failing in this duty cannot expect leniency.
