Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Mandates Rooftop Solar on All Govt Buildings
Haryana CM Orders Solar Panels on All Government Buildings

In a significant push towards clean energy, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has issued a directive for the installation of rooftop solar panels on all government buildings across the state. The order, aimed at accelerating renewable energy adoption, covers schools, colleges, hospitals, offices, and godowns.

A Major Push for Green Energy

The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting on the power sector held at the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Saini emphasized that this initiative is central to the state's strategy to reduce reliance on conventional power sources and fast-track its green energy transition.

He instructed all concerned departments to expedite installations under the central government's PM Suryaghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Reviewing the progress, the Chief Minister called for strict monitoring mechanisms and greater accountability to ensure the targets are met on time.

Ambitious Targets and New Solar Parks

The state has set an ambitious goal of ensuring 24,000 MW of power availability within the next seven years, which would secure a 100 per cent reliable electricity supply for all consumers in Haryana. As part of this vision, Saini also ordered the establishment of new solar parks across the state to further expand its renewable energy capacity.

During the meeting, Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL) Chairman, Shyamal Misra, provided an update on the current solar adoption. He reported that as of November 20, the state has completed 42,486 rooftop solar installations. The target is to dramatically scale this number to 2,22,000 installations by March 31, 2027.

New Schemes and Infrastructure Projects

Misra highlighted a new initiative designed by the power distribution companies (discoms) called the Saur Urja Protsahan Yojana. This scheme is intended to encourage state government employees and regular bill-paying consumers to switch to solar power. A government spokesperson stated that the scheme is awaiting approval and is expected to significantly boost rooftop solar uptake once implemented.

In addition to renewable projects, the meeting also reviewed plans to strengthen the conventional power infrastructure. Officials informed the CM that construction on an 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal unit at Yamunanagar will begin soon with support from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). Saini directed the department to expedite all necessary approvals for this project.

To improve public safety and aesthetics, the Chief Minister also directed the immediate removal of outdated and defunct electricity poles from major roads and highways. Reaffirming the government's commitment, Saini stressed that all pending power sector projects must be completed within stipulated timelines to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, stating that "energy security is crucial for economic growth."

The high-level meeting was attended by senior officials including Rajesh Khullar, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM; Anurag Rastogi, Chief Secretary; Dr. Saket Kumar, HPGCL MD; Mani Ram Sharma, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam MD; and other officials from the power department and discoms.
