Madurai: Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Ramanathapuram districts experienced substantial rainfall on Sunday, according to meteorological reports. Tirunelveli district recorded a total rainfall of 73.9 cm on Sunday. The highest rainfall in the district was observed at Oothu, which received 17 cm, followed by Nalumukku with 16.4 cm and Kakkachi with 14.8 cm.
Rainfall Details in Ramanathapuram
Ramanathapuram district recorded a total of 28.34 cm of rainfall on the same day. Thangachimadam reported the highest rainfall at 7.9 cm, followed by Rameswaram at 7.5 cm and Pamban at 7 cm. These figures underscore the intensity of the downpour in the region.
Tenkasi District Rainfall
Tenkasi district recorded a total rainfall of 5.25 cm on Sunday. The Gundar dam area received the highest rainfall at 1.7 cm, followed by Sivagiri at 1.3 cm, while Tenkasi town itself recorded 0.3 cm.
Precautionary Measures in Sivaganga
In response to the heavy rain forecast, Sivaganga district collector K Porkodi has urged the public to follow precautionary measures. The heavy rain is expected to continue in Sivaganga district from Sunday onwards. Residents have been advised to refrain from entering rivers and ponds due to the risk of flooding and strong currents. Relief camps have been set up in designated locations to provide shelter for those affected. Additionally, medical units have been kept on standby to offer emergency care if needed.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged citizens to stay informed through official channels. The public is encouraged to cooperate with authorities and avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy period.
