Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday announced a grant of Rs 1 crore for the construction of an indoor stadium at Maharana Pratap International Public School, Pathiar, while attending a function to mark the 487th birth anniversary of Veer Shiromani Maharana Pratap at Dharamgiri Pathiar in Kangra district.
Tributes to Maharana Pratap
Paying tributes to Maharana Pratap, the Chief Minister described him as a symbol of sacrifice, self-respect, patriotism and freedom. He said the legendary ruler's courage and commitment to his principles, particularly during the Battle of Haldighati, continue to inspire generations. He urged the youth to adopt the values of discipline, sacrifice and national service and contribute towards social harmony and national unity.
Honoring Students and Soldiers
During the event, Sukhu honoured meritorious students and released a commemorative souvenir. He highlighted Himachal Pradesh's rich legacy of patriotism and remembered the sacrifices of decorated soldiers, including Major Somnath Sharma, Colonel DS Thapa and Captain Vikram Batra.
Key Government Initiatives
Sukhu also outlined key achievements and initiatives of the state government. He said the Centre had agreed in principle that beneficiary states would bear nearly Rs 2,000 crore of Himachal Pradesh's share in the 422 MW Kishau Dam Project, reducing the financial burden on the state. The project is expected to generate around 100 crore units of electricity annually.
Education, Healthcare and Employment Reforms
Highlighting reforms in education, healthcare and employment, Sukhu said the government has introduced English-medium education from Class I, recruited over 5,400 teachers and launched the Rs 680-crore Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Start-up Scheme. He also stressed the government's commitment to tackling drug abuse through the ‘Chitta-Mukt Himachal Abhiyan' and promoting sports among youth.
