In a scathing critique of the ruling party, Jai Ram Thakur, the Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, has asserted that the Congress government is operating under a cloud of instability and pervasive fear, despite commanding a clear majority in the legislative assembly. Thakur, who previously served as the state's Chief Minister, made these allegations during a press conference held on Monday, highlighting what he described as a profound crisis of trust within the Congress ranks.
Internal Turmoil and Rajya Sabha Nomination Controversy
Thakur pointed to the recent Rajya Sabha elections as a prime example of the internal discord plaguing the Congress. He revealed that several party leaders had completed all necessary formalities to file their nominations for the March 16 election, acting on assurances that they would receive the party ticket. However, in a last-minute reversal, the situation changed dramatically, leading to widespread resentment and disillusionment among these aspirants.

Scrutiny of Congress Nominee and Environmental Scandal
Turning his attention to the Congress's Rajya Sabha nominee, Thakur raised serious questions about the candidate's financial disclosures. He pointed out that the affidavit submitted by the nominee shows assets worth over Rs 230 crore, a figure that starkly contrasts with the party's description of the individual as an "ordinary worker." In addition to political criticisms, Thakur highlighted an alleged environmental scandal in the Shillai area of Sirmaur district. He claimed that last week, permission was granted for the cutting of only 25 trees, yet reports indicate that more than 300 trees were illegally felled, allegedly under political protection. Thakur accused the government of attempting to dilute the investigation into this matter, suggesting a cover-up to shield those responsible.
