Hyderabad Commuters Appeal to SCR Over Tungabhadra Express Termination Change

The Train Travellers Association in Hyderabad has formally appealed to the South Central Railway (SCR) to reconsider its recent decision to change the termination point of the Tungabhadra Express. The association is urging the railway authorities to revert the train's termination from Kacheguda back to its original station at Secunderabad, citing significant hardship for a large segment of daily commuters.

Impact on Rayalaseema Region Passengers

According to the association's detailed representation, a substantial number of passengers hailing from the Rayalaseema region, particularly Kurnool district, are facing severe disruptions due to this alteration. Many of these individuals, including state and central government employees, reside within the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation limits and surrounding residential areas such as Moula Ali and AS Rao Nagar.

These commuters have historically depended on the Tungabhadra Express for their regular weekend travel to native places. The train provided a direct and convenient link, facilitating easy access for those living in these suburban localities.

Severe Inconvenience and Increased Costs

The shift in termination to Kacheguda station has created multiple logistical challenges for passengers. The association highlighted that there are no proper MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport System) connections available from Malkajgiri and adjacent areas to Kacheguda, forcing commuters to seek alternative transportation methods.

As a result, passengers are now compelled to utilize different modes of transport, including buses, auto-rickshaws, or taxis, to reach the station. This not only increases their travel expenses significantly but also extends the overall duration of their journeys, adding to the daily stress and inconvenience faced by regular travelers.

Call for Reconsideration

The Train Travellers Association has emphasized that the current arrangement is unsustainable for the affected commuter community. They have requested the South Central Railway to review the decision promptly and restore the train's termination to Secunderabad to alleviate the hardships faced by passengers.

The association's appeal underscores the broader issue of public transport connectivity in Hyderabad's expanding suburban areas, where railway services play a crucial role in daily commuting and regional travel.
