Hyderabad Gets ₹43,592 Crore Infrastructure Boost in State Budget

Telangana Government Unveils Massive Infrastructure Push for Hyderabad

The growth trajectory of Hyderabad is receiving a powerful new impetus, as the state government intensifies its focus on large-scale infrastructure and urban expansion. The city and its surrounding belt are now the central pillar of the state's budgetary strategy, with unprecedented financial allocations aimed at transformative development.

Record-Breaking Financial Commitments for Urban Development

Reaffirming its dedication to the Core Urban Region of Greater Hyderabad and areas extending to the Outer Ring Road, the government has outlined substantial investments across multiple high-profile projects. The municipal administration department alone has been allocated ₹17,907 crore, while the total sanctioned works for Hyderabad and its environs through various agencies amounts to a staggering ₹43,592 crore.

Of this colossal sum, projects worth ₹24,752 crore are already actively underway, with an additional ₹19,000 crore expected to receive clearance during the current financial year. This represents a significant and steady increase in Hyderabad's budgetary allocations, which have risen from ₹10,000 crore in 2024-25 to ₹12,000 crore in 2025-26, driven by new municipal corporations, the CURE initiative, and flagship projects.

Flagship Initiatives Driving the Transformation

At the forefront of this urban revolution is the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure scheme, a flagship initiative of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. H-CITI has been specifically allocated ₹2,654 crore to construct critical urban infrastructure, including modern flyovers and other essential facilities.

Another marquee project is the ambitious Musi riverfront development, which has been prioritized by the Congress government. Approximately ₹1,500 crore has been earmarked for this initiative, focusing on the prestigious Gandhi Sarovar project near Bapu Ghat. This comprehensive plan encompasses river cleaning, advanced flood control measures, extensive riverfront development, and the creation of public recreational spaces.

"The government is developing the prestigious Gandhi Sarovar project with a holistic approach," senior officials explained. "This includes river cleaning, flood control, riverfront development, and recreational facilities for public use. We are committed to providing humane rehabilitation for residents in the Musi river buffer zone, ensuring no undue hardship is caused."

Transport Infrastructure Receives Major Boost

Transportation networks are receiving substantial attention in this development surge. The budget allocates ₹600 crore specifically for land acquisition related to Hyderabad Metro Phase II, particularly for the MGBS-Falaknuma corridor. An additional ₹500 crore has been sanctioned to Hyderabad Metro Rail to support its operations and expansion.

The government has reiterated its strategic plan to assume control of Metro Phase I while aggressively advancing Phases II and III, signaling a long-term commitment to modernizing the city's public transit system.

Expanding Water and Sewerage Infrastructure

With the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board's jurisdiction now extended to the Outer Ring Road, the government has authorized it to secure a ₹1,000 crore loan for the Sunkishala intake project. Additional projects have been cleared to strengthen drinking water supply across the region, including the Godavari drinking water scheme, construction of new reservoirs, and 39 sewage treatment plants at various stages of execution.

Comprehensive Urban Development Blueprint

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is spearheading large-scale infrastructure works as part of this expansive urban blueprint. Key initiatives include:

  • Pedestrian-friendly urban upgrades and eco-tourism development at Kurmidda in Rangareddy district
  • Radial roads linking the Outer Ring Road with the Regional Ring Road
  • Comprehensive road-widening projects and construction of modern skywalks

Political Context and Strategic Vision

This intensified focus coincides with impending civic polls in key urban bodies within the CURE jurisdiction, including the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri municipal corporations. The GHMC council's term concluded recently, adding political urgency to the government's urban development agenda, according to political analysts.

Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka articulated the government's vision in his budget address: "Our government is taking necessary steps to make Hyderabad comparable with international cities. With cooperation from citizens, institutions, NGOs, CSR partners, and others, we are launching numerous new initiatives. Hyderabad ranks among the fastest-growing cities globally, yet we are not complacent. We are working with the ambitious goal that every town and city in Telangana should develop to Hyderabad's standard."

Collectively, these projects demonstrate a clear strategic thrust: to dramatically scale up Hyderabad's infrastructure, deepen its urban footprint, and firmly establish the city as the primary growth engine for Telangana's economic future, as confirmed by government officials involved in the planning process.
