A journey to Bhopal to bring home a new car ended in tragedy for an Indore family on Wednesday when their SUV overturned near Sonkatch in Dewas district, resulting in the deaths of a woman and her nephew and injuries to 10 others, including two toddlers.
The deceased have been identified as Sangita Agrawal (51), wife of Sunil Agrawal of Sendhwa, and her nephew, Mayuresh Garg (38), son of Santosh Garg of Indore. Both died on the spot on the highway within the jurisdiction of Jawar police station around 2 pm.
According to family members, 12 members of the Garg and Agrawal families had left for Bhopal to purchase a new car. The desired model was not available in Indore, prompting the families to travel together to the state capital. Before they could reach their destination, the vehicle went out of control near Sonkatch and overturned.
Passersby and local residents rushed to the scene and pulled out the occupants trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Police and ambulances arrived soon after and transported the injured to Sonkatch hospital. Following preliminary treatment, all were referred to Bombay Hospital in Indore.
Police have registered a case regarding the incident.
