Indore Excise Department Records Major Revenue Jump in Liquor Shop Allocations
The excise department in Indore has successfully initiated the e-tender and auctioning process for the first phase, designated as Batch-03, of liquor shop allocations for the upcoming 2026–27 financial year. This phase involves 18 groups slated for bidding, with the department having already processed bids for 11 of these groups, demonstrating a robust and enthusiastic response from investors across the region.
Strong Bidding Activity and Financial Outcomes
According to official records released by the department, a total of 43 tenders were received specifically for the 11 groups that have reached the bid-opening stage. Against a total reserve price set at Rs 608.12 crore, the department managed to secure the highest bid of Rs 610.73 crore. This figure represents a significant financial leap when compared to the previous year's calculated annual value of Rs 506.77 crore for similar allocations.
With this successful bidding round, the excise department has recorded a substantial revenue increase of Rs 103.96 crore compared to the 2025–26 financial year. This translates to an approximate surge of 20.51% in the annual value, highlighting a growing market interest and confidence in Indore's liquor retail sector.
Ongoing Auction Process and Transparency Measures
While 11 groups have successfully reached the bid-opening stage, the auction process for the remaining five groups is currently in progress and actively underway. The department has confirmed that the e-tender bids for these remaining groups will be opened immediately following the conclusion of the ongoing live auction, ensuring a seamless and efficient transition.
The department emphasised that all proceedings are being conducted under the strict guidelines and procedural framework established by the state government to ensure maximum transparency and fairness. This commitment to regulatory compliance is seen as a key factor in attracting high levels of investor participation.
Assistant Excise Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari commented on the developments, stating, "This surge in bidding reflects high market interest in Indore's liquor retail sector despite the rising reserve prices. The transparent processes we have implemented are fostering a competitive environment that benefits both the department and the investors."
The successful auction phase not only boosts state revenue but also indicates a positive economic trajectory for the region's retail liquor market, with expectations set high for the remaining groups as the process continues.
