The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) have formally agreed to join actor-politician Vijay's government in Tamil Nadu, with their MLAs expected to take oath soon. This development comes as part of a cabinet expansion scheduled for tomorrow, according to reports.
Both parties were key supporters of Vijay's government after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), fell just short of a majority in the recent Assembly elections, securing 108 seats. The VCK and the Left bloc had extended their support, stating that the move was aimed at preventing Governor's Rule and reducing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) influence in the state.
IUML later announced that Papanasam MLA A.M. Shahjahan would be included in the cabinet. With this addition, the total cabinet strength has reached 33, leaving two berths vacant. The expansion is expected to fill these remaining positions.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) have chosen to stay out of power. Additionally, rebel MLAs from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) now appear unlikely to enter the cabinet.
This political realignment underscores the evolving dynamics in Tamil Nadu's governance, as Vijay's administration seeks to consolidate support and ensure stability.
